Prime Healthcare Named as Top 15 Health System in the Nation

Prime Healthcare Services was recognized today as one of the "15 Top Health Systems" in the nation by Truven Health Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters) based on the quality of care, efficiency, and patient satisfaction. This is the third time in five years that Prime Healthcare has earned the national distinction. Prime Healthcare was the only for-profit health system recognized in the nation.

According to Truven Health, compared to its peers, Prime Healthcare saved more lives, caused fewer patient complications, followed industry-recommended standards of care more closely, made fewer patient safety errors, released patients half a day sooner, and scored better on overall patient satisfaction. This annual, quantitative study uses objective, independent research, and public data sources. Health systems do not apply, and winners do not pay to market their awards.

"This unbiased study shows that Prime Healthcare is committed to providing the best quality of care to its patients in a cost-effective manner," said Prem Reddy, MD, FACC, FCCP, Chairman, President, and CEO of Prime Healthcare Services.

Included in the study were 328 health systems and 2, 254 hospitals. The winning systems experienced 3.4 percent fewer deaths than non-winning peer-group hospitals, lower 30-day mortality rates, 3 percent fewer complications, a median average length of stay of 4.49 days, over half a day shorter than their peers' median of 5.06 days, and 7 percent fewer adverse patient safety events than expected, given the case mix of the particular hospital, and had better adherence to core measures of care than their peers.

"The health systems honored in this study are creating a culture of quality care and realizing improved outcomes," said Mike Boswood, chief executive officer at Truven Health Analytics. "We're proud to recognize their efforts, and encourage other systems to follow their lead of developing system-wide metrics for creating sustainable quality improvements across every level of care."

"Prime Healthcare consistently shows that it's a leader in an ever-evolving health care landscape," said Mike Sarian, President of Operations of Prime Healthcare. "The award serves as a reassurance to the Prime team of clinicians, physicians, and leaders who have been dedicated to doing the right thing, always and every time."

"We thank the physicians, nurses, and staff at Prime Healthcare hospitals who are dedicated to achieving superior clinical outcomes," said Luis Leon, President of Operations II for Prime Healthcare.

The published study is based on Medicare data from 2010 and 2011 and takes into consideration 12 patient care metrics.
